A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order on October 31 to block the cutoff of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which were unpaid as of November 1.

Under this order, contingency funds must be distributed to continue food assistance during the ongoing federal government shutdown. The federal administration announced on November 3 that reduced SNAP benefits will be provided for November from these contingency funds.

It remains unclear when the overdue benefits will be paid to recipients.

ELRC Region 5 has compiled a list of resources for residents in the Pittsburgh region who are in need of immediate food assistance. See list.
