The goal of the study is to see if women with children earn more income if they have access to convenient low-cost transportation. The results of this study may help Allegheny County develop better transportation solutions for working families with children.

During the study, all participants will be able to take up to $200 worth of Uber trips at Carnegie Mellon’s expense at the beginning of the study. Participants can use the ride credits to travel anywhere in the Pittsburgh area.

The study will require participants to download an app onto their smartphone. This app will have built-in features that might help them find a new job, career training, or other resources. Every month, for the next six months, researchers will send a short survey to participants using the study app. Participants will receive compensation of $10 for each monthly survey completed, as well as $10 for completing a follow-up survey a year after completing the six-month study.
