Three New Parts: Developmentally Appropriate Parenting Series
To help guide families in understanding, identifying, and implementing Developmentally Appropriate Practices, ELRC Region 5’s quality partner Trying Together developed the Developmentally Appropriate Parenting (DAP) Series. Three new parts — Childhood Mental Health, Race and Equity, and Transitions and Routines — are now available.
Learn More
Developmentally Appropriate Practice is the approach early care and education professionals use to teach young children. It is based on knowledge—not assumptions—of how children learn and develop.
Trying Together previously published six parts of the DAP Series:
Three new parts are now available:
Part VII: Childhood Mental Health
This part helps families and caregivers of children navigate their children’s mental health. Learn about common childhood mental health disorders, warning signs, first steps for families, and available local services.
Part VIII: Race and Equity
Caregivers have a responsibility to ensure each child, family, and caregiver is safe from racism and discrimination and has equitable opportunities to thrive. To help guide families in supporting their children’s understanding of race and equity, this part focuses on topics including discussing race and equity, raising anti-racist children, and children’s books for discussing race.
Part IX: Transitions and Routines
During early childhood, children experience a wide range of transitions, such as starting child care or kindergarten, welcoming a new family member, losing a loved one, and more. These resources aid caregivers as they help children successfully navigate these transitions.
