Three New Parts: Developmentally Appropriate Parenting Series
To help guide families in understanding, identifying, and implementing Developmentally Appropriate Practices, ELRC Region 5’s quality partner Trying Together developed the Developmentally Appropriate Parenting (DAP) Series. Three new parts, Early Intervention (EI), Safety, and Social-Emotional Development are now available.
Learn More
Developmentally Appropriate Practice is the approach early care and education professionals use to teach young children. It is based on knowledge—not assumptions—of how children learn and develop.
Trying Together previously published three parts of the DAP Series:
Three new parts are now available:
Part IV: Early Intervention (EI)
This part focuses on guiding families in understanding the early intervention process. EI consists of services and supports designed to help families with children who have developmental delays or disabilities. EI services can include: information about how children develop, parent or caregiver education, family supports, and developmental and instructional therapies that assist in child development.
Part V: Safety
This part helps guide parents and caregivers in taking steps to eliminate hazards and create safe spaces for children in and out of the home. Parents and caregivers play the most vital role in keeping their children out of harm’s way on a day-to-day basis, as well as equipping them with the safety skills they need to prevent injury and in the event of an emergency.
Part VI: Social-Emotional Development
To help guide families in supporting their children’s social-emotional development, this part explores topics including social-emotional activities, navigating difficult emotions, respecting boundaries, available resources and support services, and more.
