As part of the commonwealth’s response to COVID-19, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) issued guidance to assist all local education agencies (LEAs) with developing and implementing local Health and Safety Plans to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including limitations to activities that might occur in their buildings or campuses. This could result in the displacement of child care programs that have partnered with LEAs.

On October 7, 2020, OCDEL updated the emergency relocation process a child care provider must follow if they are informed that they will be displaced from their building due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts. OCDEL will work with providers to complete an emergency relocation if they plan to continue operations.

The updated plan outlines processes providers must take to notify the regional office; move to a temporary location; move back to the original location; and convert the temporary location into a permanent location or move to a new permanent location.
