Want to learn strategies to support your multilingual learners? Join Trying Together in June for a three-week online course, “WIDA Communication Strategies to Support Multilingual Children.”
Participants will identify and apply developmentally appropriate academic language demands of routines, social interactions, and learning experiences for multilingual learners. Participants will learn about language supports to use in their environments to provide multiple meaningful opportunities for multilingual learners to use their own languages through the use of WIDA Early Years resources.
This three-week online course will take place on Schoology, an online education platform. You will receive login information at least 48 hours before the course opens.
Course Details
Course Timeline: Monday, June 7 – Monday, June 28, 2021
Core Knowledge Competencies (CKC):
K5.3 C2 – Adapt a communication style and vocabulary to meet the needs of the listener, based on culture, primary language, and cognitive strengths and/or limitations.
K5.7 C2 – Implement programs which support, extend and scaffold communication that is understood by each child through the use of verbal and non-verbal techniques that encourage children’s expressive and receptive language.
STARS. SQ. 3.4.3 – Professional development related to planning and implementing activities that support language development and academic achievement of children who are culturally and linguistically diverse must be completed by all teaching staff and program leadership within one year of hire. Ongoing professional development plans reflect additional PD as relevant for staff.

Step One (Event Registration)
To register, complete the registration form by June 4 at 11:55 p.m. Please have your PD Registry Number available (if any).
Step Two (Receiving Credit)
To receive credit, you must complete the PD Registry Credit Request Form (in addition to the registration form).
