In partnership with Trying Together and external experts, this course will identify the history of positive racial identity in the education setting as well as barriers such as racism and implicit bias. Instructors will move from this topic to discuss how these barriers can be confronted and how positive racial identity can be interwoven with classroom practices, such as through literature, resources, and family and community partnerships. Instructors also will touch on program-wide policies that can encourage positive racial identity from a whole center approach versus an individual classroom approach.
